I see therapy as the safe and supportive space that honors your unique life experiences, where we identify and challenge the belief systems blocking your growth and find behavioral strategies to challenge them, grow as a person, and live with a deeper sense of happiness and fulfillment.

If you want a change but are feeling stuck or uncertain, through therapy with me you get a chance to better understand yourself and your relationship with others and, through that understanding, visualize a path to a more meaningful life.

I have over 20 years of experience working with people from all walks of life to help them battle anxiety and depression, improve self-esteem, review careers, relationships or family life, and find new goals that return a sense of contentment and joy.

I tend to connect very well with individuals, couples and families that are ready to examine critically their life circumstances and are excited about their potential to change. I respect my client’s unique life experiences and work collaboratively with them to reach their goals.

Individual Therapy

Are you an intelligent and loving person feeling blocked and uncertain about your career, relationships, or your purpose in life?

Feeling unhappy, uninspired, and longing for something better is not uncommon. It means that you want more from life. I understand that ambition. We all deserve fulfillment and joy. And you do too.

Instead of hoping for change, let's create the transformation you want. Together, we can break through inner barriers, overcome unhealthy relationship patterns, and release anxiety and fear.

I can help you gain clarity and confidence, and make positive changes in your life. Whether it's finding your true calling, improving your current job, healing troubled relationships, or attracting the love you deserve, I’ll be with you along the way.

I understand that seeking therapy is a courageous decision that takes time, effort, and energy. I honor this decision by focusing on my client's goals and aspirations while defining our clinical objectives.

Through individual therapy we can address issues like:

  • Anxiety and Depression: Feelings of sadness, worry, fear, or nervousness can be overwhelming, and it's not uncommon to feel like you can't cope with them on your own.
  • Relationship Issues: Issues in personal relationships, such as lack of communication, trust issues, or constant arguing, can be stressful and impact your emotional well-being.
  • Self-Esteem and Confidence: Struggling with self-esteem and confidence can impact all areas of your life, leading to negative thoughts and behaviors that can impair your growth.
  • Life Transitions: Significant life changes, such as a divorce, moving to a new city, or losing a loved one, can be challenging and may require additional support.
  • Trauma and PTSD: Trauma can have a significant impact on your mental and emotional health, leading to flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety.

Couple Therapy

Couple therapy can be beneficial for couples who want to improve their relationship or address specific issues.

Common reasons to seek couple therapy include:

  • Communication Issues: Communication is key in any relationship, and therapy can help couples learn effective communication skills and improve their ability to listen and express themselves.
  • Infidelity and Trust Issues: Infidelity and trust issues can be devastating for couples, and therapy can help them navigate the complex emotions and rebuild trust.
  • Sexual Issues: Sexual issues, such as lack of intimacy, differing libidos, or sexual dysfunction, can be addressed in therapy to improve a couple's sexual relationship.
  • Parenting Conflicts: Parenting can be stressful, and disagreements about parenting can cause tension in a relationship. Therapy can help couples navigate these conflicts and find a common ground.
  • Life Transitions: Significant life changes, such as starting a family or retirement, can impact a couple's relationship, and therapy can help them navigate these transitions.

Family Therapy

Family therapy can be beneficial for families who want to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and build stronger relationships.

Through family therapy we can address issues like:

  • Parent-Child Conflict: Parent-child conflicts can arise at any age, and therapy can help families understand each other's perspectives and improve communication.
  • Blended Family Issues: Blended families can face unique challenges, such as parenting styles and loyalty conflicts, and therapy can help families navigate these challenges.
  • Substance Abuse: Substance abuse can impact the entire family, and therapy can help families understand addiction and develop strategies to support recovery.
  • Behavioral Issues: Behavioral issues, such as aggression or defiance, can impact the entire family, and therapy can help families develop strategies to manage these issues.
  • Life Transitions: Significant life changes, such as divorce or a new baby, can impact the entire family, and therapy can help families navigate these transitions.
  • Teamwork focused on you

I see therapy as a team effort involving the therapist and the client. I work collaboratively with my clients to develop personalized treatment plans and help them achieve their goals. What other people say about my work

Mariano is a sharp therapist of acute observation powers and warm empathetic and compassionate qualities. He also has a deep understanding of theories and systems in psychotherapy, allowing him to produce intriguing fresh perspectives and creatively use resources at hand. I have known Mariano since he was my student at the School of Psychology both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Throughout, he displayed a strong academic standing and influential leadership qualities. When he completed his training in psychotherapy I invited him to partner with me in the opening of a psychotherapy clinic and have followed with interest his international career.

Mariano is an exceptional coach. He provided support and perspective while I was dealing with very complicated office politics, calming my mood, clearing my mind and helping me find meaningful new goals. He was with me when I gave this exhilarating jump to entrepreneurship and being my own boss, giving me a healthy and objective view of my strengths and challenges that allowed me to better prepare for the changes ahead. I always have him on speed dial. I wholeheartedly recommend working with him.

Mr. Casanova is a very talented psychotherapist. I was his clinical supervisor for five years while at the Bleuler Psychotherapy Center, where he was consistently ranked at “above average” and “clearly outstanding” categories at all the criteria of our performance appraisals. External audits praised his performance, the tools that he used for therapy and the soundness of his clinical interventions. Mariano’s reputation had grown immensely and had a long waiting list of clients that wanted to see him exclusively.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a form of therapy where you work with a trained therapist to address and overcome emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges.

2. How can psychotherapy help me?

Psychotherapy provides a supportive space to explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insight, develop coping strategies, and make positive changes in your life.

3. What should I expect during a psychotherapy session?

During a session, you'll have open conversations with your therapist. They will listen, offer perspective, and help you explore your emotions and thoughts in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

4. How long does psychotherapy usually last?

The duration of psychotherapy varies depending on your needs and goals and it's quite unique to each individual. It can range from a few sessions to several months or even longer.

5. How often should I attend psychotherapy sessions?

The frequency of sessions is determined after an initial evaluation and can vary based on your needs. In many cases it’s set on a weekly basis. Consistency is fundamental for progress.

6. What are the potential benefits and risks of psychotherapy?

The benefits of psychotherapy include improved mental well-being, better coping skills, enhanced self-awareness, and stronger relationships. Risks are minimal, but confidentiality and compatibility with the therapist are important considerations.

7. Are sessions confidential?

Your diagnosis, clinical goals and the content of the conversations with your therapist are completely confidential and will never be disclosed without your authorization. Laws in the US mandate psychotherapists, medical doctors, teachers and other professionals to alert authorities or involved parties if your actions are or could be dangerous to yourself, minors, elderly people under your care, and other people. These laws are in effect to protect you and others from injury, mental trauma or death.

8. Will you prescribe medications?

No, I will not prescribe medications. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with therapy. We can analyze the situation and assess the need to involve medication supervised by a medical professional, like a psychiatrist or neurologist.

9. I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

It is very important that you provide honest and timely information to your therapist. We are experts in behavior but do not read minds. It is also consequential that you attend sessions consistently in order to reach clinical goals. And it is also fundamental that you at least attempt to do the homework requested by your therapist. Homework gives us the opportunity to extend the impact of therapy beyond the weekly session by implementing its ideas into your life.

10. Isn’t therapy for mentally weak people?

I’ve heard this before. In different forms, the basic idea is that therapy is for crazy people and that normal people should be able to handle problems on their own. This is false in several levels. Therapy is for people who want to live with more freedom from fear and anxiety, and in harmony with their loved ones. We are social beings. Our strength comes from working as a team. Asking for help is the natural way of forming teams that help us go further.

The idea that therapy is for somehow weak people comes from the religious belief present in many cultures that, as long as you are following divine mandates, which for sure requires character, your life will be perfect. Consequently, needing help shows a weak character. I can see the good intentions behind this idea but in the end it only adds isolation and guilt to your problems.

11. How is therapy different from a conversation with a friend or family member?

Therapy is a space free of judgment, that honors difference and doesn’t ask for compliance, with a professional who has no expectations about the way you want to live your life as long as you find happiness in it. Therapy focuses on your needs and on the tools that you have available or need to develop in order to achieve your goals. If required, therapy can identify if you need a higher level of care and connect you with it. Therapy knows how to identify mental or behavioral patterns that sustain problematic situations and can help you change them. Very importantly, it helps you become aware of the social and psychological factors that shape your attitudes and beliefs, offering alternative perspectives in a conversation that is completely confidential.
